We're Back!

School is off to a great start.  Classrooms are building their learning communities, and new friendships are popping up all over the building.  I have met so many new faces!  We have almost 180 new students this year, which includes our kindergarten students.  My goal this year is to create an environment for both students and parents to feel included and connected.  Please feel free to stop in my office to say hi, or share a concern.

Guidance lessons began Friday, August 24th.  This first few weeks of school my goal is to establish a positive learning environment through team building activities, stories, and sharing.  Kindergarten students met Miss Kitty and learned about my job.  1st graders listened to "I am Gonna Like Me" by Jamie Lee Curtis, then shared something they liked about themselves and their school.  2nd Graders listened to "Arthur's Teacher Trouble" and played a game called Known/Unknown as we discussed how the beginning of the year 2nd grade feels new, but by the end of the year they will be prepared to be 3rd graders. 3rd Grade will be playing a team building game called "You, Me, Left and Right." 4th grade will play the "SuperHero Game"  as we discuss how to be a super 4th grader.  5th graders participated in an activity called, " That's Me." which brings awareness of how we can be similar and different to one another.   6th graders experienced "4 on a Couch" activity.  We will begin the Lifeskills curriculum which helps 6th graders learn more about themselves as they get ready to transition to junior high.  I am looking forward to an AWESOME year.
