Smarter than a Scooper!

Last week, as many of you know, an attempted abduction took place in the Lincoln community.  This is so sad for our Lincoln neighborhood.  One of the many reasons I love Lincoln is the neighborhood feel.  Kids playing outside, riding bikes, and many students able to walk to school to play on the playground.  It is my mission to help students feel confident in a stranger safety plan.  We have read a book by Julia Cook called, "Smarter than a Scooper."  This book uses SCOOP as an acronym for a stranger safety plan.
  1. S- Smarts-  Use your uh oh voice- trust your instincts- never talk to or go with someone you don't know.
  2. C- Call list-  Students know if someone strange shows up after school to go back in the buidling and check their call list.  We have assured all students we will call parents, and emergency contacts until we can reach someone who can confirm they are to go home with the person.  Please talk to your students about who is on the list you filled out at registration.
  3. O- zerO talking to people you don't know.
  4. O- keep strangers OUT of your personal space.  People can't scoop you if they can't reach you.
  5. P- Pair up-  Go to parks, bike rides, and dog walks with a buddy, sibling, neighbor, or a parent.
Feel free to contact me if you have any further concerns or questions about how to help your child stay safe when they are not with you.
