What's happening in guidance?

The past two weeks one of the main focuses in guidance has been about "PERSPECTIVE".   5th grade looked at abstract art and discussed the concept that we all see things differently.  4th graders are creating SUPER ME! posters and writing a commitment statement about what they can do to help our school community.  3rd Graders did a writing activity from three different perspectives; cat, dog, and mouse, though each animal wrote about cats.  The students discovered how everyone can look at a topic differently.  In second and first grade we read , "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs."  In kindergarten we will be focusing on the topic of friendship.  Students will know that friends do four things, they share, care, play fair, and have fun.

Students in grades 3-6 have taken a bullying survey district wide.  The school counselors have written a SMART goal that 100% of our students will know the definition of bullying and be able to identify what scenarios are bullying and which are conflicts by May, 2013.

I have shown a touching video to students this past week.   It reminds us all that just because we are different doesn't mean we can't get along.
Check it out!
